somewhereto_ Volunteer Opportunity at Space Club, Edinburgh

Hot Tap Media is one of the regional delivery partners of somewhereto_, a UK-wide Big Lottery funded project that helps 16-25 year olds find free spaces to do what they love. We operate from Argyle House, a creative hub run by our sister charity Space Club, and led by volunteers. We currently have two brand new vacancies for somewhereto_ volunteers to support the somewhereto_ project to help build, shape and create a thriving arts hub at Argyle House.

What’s Involved?

The volunteers will work with the somewhereto_ regional co-ordinators at Hot Tap to help deliver somewhereto_ in Argyle House. The work will involve welcoming young people into the space, briefing all visitors, showing potential space users around, booking young people into the space, and maintaining accurate records. This is also an opportunity to run your own project within the space that will engage other young people in the arts, so if you’ve ever wanted to set up a film club, life drawing class, creative Pecha Kucha or craft workshops this is your chance.

Volunteers will also be asked to contribute to the digital marketing of somewhereto_ – taking photos and video content, and tweeting and facebook-posting about events in the space, and there may also be some general tasks relating to managing and maintaining the space, including potentially some DIY, cleaning and building.

Are You The Perfect Candidate?

Volunteers should be creative, proactive, and passionate about the arts and should be able to work independently and use their own initiative.

They should also have excellent personal skills and be able to commit to volunteering on set days, three days per week, from 12 noon till 8pm, for a period of four months.

What’s The Deal?

Volunteers will be registered with Project Scotland who will cover all expenses and also give you access to mentoring, workshops and other support. Volunteers will also get the opportunity to work with other creative young people in a youth-led, creative, innovative environment. Volunteers will also earn Mozilla open badges, and be mentored by the somewhereto_ team to help them create their own projects and events with access to funding, space and support.
