Hot Tap Supports ShortCUTS Dundee

Back in 2012 we ran the pilot phase of ShortCUTS, a filmmaking project for 1625 year olds in Dundee, in association with somewhereto_.  The resulting films by first-time filmmakers were screened to a packed audience and went on to be selected for major festival screenings Deep Fried Film Festival, and the Glasgow Film Festival. The project was managed on the ground by a team of somewhereto_ volunteers, including Claire Dufour, Lauren McCorkindale, Stephen Grant and Dylan Drummond. Now, the dream team are back to deliver ShortCUTS Dundee 2014 – this time under the helm of By Ricochet, the events company set up by Claire Dufour after her experience of managing ShortCUTS pilot!

ShortCUTS Dundee 2014 will be launched at The Shore in Dundee this Saturday, 13th September. ShortCUTS is a unique project that brings 16-25 year olds together, forming filmmaking teams to create short films. Young people are invited to come along to the free launch event at The Shore, Shore Terrace, Dundee DD1 3DN, from 4.30pm till 6.30pm. At the launch event participants will be invited to take part in some creative games and challenges  to help them discover what the project can do for them.

The project seeks to engage young people from a wide range of backgrounds and skill sets, including those who would not ordinarily engage with filmmaking networks and training. By Ricochet will work with the Community Regeneration Areas’ Youth Work Teams and Hot Tap Media, as well as The Shore, Discover Opportunities, Skills Development Scotland, and local arts organisations, to ensure that the project benefits young people from across Lochee, Coldside and Maryfield Community Regeneration Areas.

ShortCUTS is not just for filmmakers, but also for actors, photographers, dancers, musicians, designers, makeup artists and anyone else who thinks they would benefit from the project. Young people will learn how to network and match their skills with other participants so that they will form creative groups to work together on a film. Each group will receive training, crowdfund their film, and will be matched with a mentor who will help them make their film. The project will culminate with a screening event of the young people’s films on Saturday 22nd November at the Step Theatre, Central Library at Wellgate Centre, Dundee.
